If like most men, you suffer with a patchy beard, you can consider several alternative treatments to help initiate hair growth. There are several beard thickening products and sprays that you can use but we want to keep it healthy and natural.
People who have patchy beards often mask this by keeping it short, you will notice that a majority of male celebrities use this approach. You will be surprised by the length of some beards, they give the illusion of density through extra weight and thickness.
Supplements and Diet
A healthy diet is a healthy beard, this might sound obvious but a high protein diet mixed with a high quality sleep pattern will result in faster growing hair follicles.
A supplement that can increase growth in both hair and nails is Biotin, a B-complex vitamin that has been identified as a necessary nutrient for cell growth.
Packed with high levels of complex vitamins, this supplement is important for your metabolism, helping your body transfer and process carbon dioxide to your skin and hair cells.
Make sure you follow the instructions on the bottle you use and do not exceed the daily usage limit, you may also see an increase in nail growth with this supplement.
For those that have never heard of Castor oil, it is a vegetable based oil which derives from the castor bean seed at its purest form.
The oil is colourless, tasteless and odourless, we advise not to try tasting it though as it doubles up as a laxative. Cultivators of castor beans remove the hull of the seed, before pressing it to obtain the oil.
The benefits when applied to hair are substantial, split ends and dryness are quickly fixed thanks to the moisturising and hydrating power of Castor oil.
Applying Castor oil to you hair will help stimulate the growth, it will help improve the overall look of your facial hair by increasing density, improving blood circulation to the skin and massaging those areas where hair is not present.
To apply Castor oil to your beard:
- Wash your beard thoroughly every evening, we suggest shampooing and conditioning every 2 to 3 days to help maintain the natural oils.
- Dry your beard thoroughly with a towel, combing out any loose hairs.
- Massage a small amount of Castor oil into your palm then gently apply to your facial hair, making sure you rub the oil directly onto your skin and all the way through your beard.
- Keep the oil in whilst you sleep (we suggest using a towel to protect your pillows)
- Wash your beard and face thoroughly in the morning, removing any excess oil
Keep this ritual daily until the hair shows successful growth, then move to a weekly regime when you are happy with the results.
